Drysdale’s School Of Tae Kwon Do

Execution of Basic
Two Way Three-Step Sparring
- Students
shall come to attention and bow to show respect to each other. The higher
rank student shall come up from the bow first and the lower rank will
follow his/her lead to show the proper respect to the senior in rank.
- Both
attacker and defender shall come to Parallel Ready Stance. (Higher rank
student shall step right into Parallel Ready and low rank student shall step
left into Parallel Ready) Stepping this way lines both the attacker and
defender full facing each other and no adjustments need to be made.
- Attacking
student shall make the necessary adjustments for stepping and foot
placement.
- Attacking
student will step back and perform a Left W/S low section outer forearm
block. Attacking student will kiap to let his/her partner know that he/she
is ready to attack. Foot Attacks shall begin from a Right L/S Mid
section outer fore arm guarding block.
- Defender
will kiap to let his/her partner know that he/she is ready to defend
against attacks.
- Attacking
student will now advance three times and perform three middle section
punches in a W/S. (Instructors may designate any single attack of their
choice)
- Regular
speed is needed for all step sparring formats. One technique, one sine
wave, one breath, per one technique. Step sparring is weak and sloppy when
performed too fast.
- Defender
will step back and perform three blocks designated by the Instructor –
including the stance to be used.
- Defender
upon completion of his/her third block will perform one counter attack.
(Only one counter attack is to be used in beginning Three-Step Sparring)
- Original
attacker will not defend against this counterattack but remain in place.
- Original
attacker will now step backwards three times in W/S and perform three mid
section punches.
- Original
defender will now advance and perform three blocks designated by the
instructor. (Defender in advancing controls foot placement for his/her
blocks)
- Upon completion
of third block original defender will execute one counter attack
- Both
attacker and defender will step backwards into a right middle
section-guarding block.
- Both
attacker and defender will now step forward into their parallel ready
stances.
- Performing 2-way three steps utilizes both left and
right sides equally. Therefore, it is not necessary to perform both sides.
